About us
About RareSynonym
RareSynonym helps you move past overused words. For each word we cover, you get everyday alternatives alongside fresher, less common ones, with meanings and examples, sorted by the situation you are writing for.
Why we started RareSynonym
RareSynonym grew out of a simple frustration: the same handful of words turn up in every essay, article and caption. Good alternatives exist, but they are often buried or come without any explanation. We wanted a place where you can find words that feel fresh yet still fit, so our guides group synonyms by situation, from formal and academic writing to casual chat and creative work, and explain what each word means and how to use it. The aim is writing that sounds more like you and less like everyone else.

How we create content
Written and edited by people
Every article is reviewed and edited by our team before it is published. We may use software tools, including AI writing assistants, for research, drafting and proofreading; they never publish anything on their own.
Original work
Our synonym guides and example sentences are written by our team; words suggested by readers are credited to them.
Checked sources
Meanings, usage notes and labels such as formal or uncommon are checked against standard dictionaries before we publish.
Kept up to date
We review older articles regularly and update or remove those that no longer help readers.
